Lava Glaze also known as Volcanic Glaze is a unique traditional Vietnamese ceramic technique that captures the raw beauty and nostalgic essence of ancient pottery. Fired at temperatures exceeding 1200°C, this glaze forms layered, organic patterns with a rich palette of earthy and vibrant hues.
Unlike conventional glossy finishes, Lava Glaze features a rich matte or semi-matte surface, appealing to those who appreciate natural textures and understated elegance over high-shine ceramics.
Material:
Each piece starts with hand-molded red clay, carefully selected for its strength and warm, earthy tone. A special volcanic glaze is applied, producing unpredictable and one-of-a-kind patterns during firing.
Molding:
The clay is prepared and cut into slabs 15–18 mm thick, then shaped using plaster molds. It is allowed to mature and dry naturally, ensuring optimal structural stability before firing.
Glazing & Firing:
The dried greenware is glazed and fired in traditional wood-fired kilns at temperatures above 1200°C for five days, followed by a slow, two-day cooling period. This extended high-temperature process intensifies color depth, enhances texture, and guarantees lasting durability.
Frost-resistant: Easily withstands freeze-thaw cycles
Weatherproof: Suitable for year-round outdoor use
Durable & Timeless: Crafted to endure, both functionally and aesthetically
Unique Surface: No two lava-glazed pieces are exactly alike, making each item truly unique
Whether displayed in gardens, patios, or indoor settings, Lava Glaze ceramics embody a harmonious blend of raw natural beauty and refined craftsmanship, rooted in tradition and designed for contemporary living.
